the assignments used time to tell a story in obviously different ways. assignment 2 had a more structured storyline and depicted actual events happening over a course of time whilst assignment 3 was more about the abtract movement of time represent by the simple movement of different shapes. They created a mood by using narrative to actually create a mood through the actions in the story of assignment 2 versus creating a mood based on the kind of music chosen in assignment 3.
The similarities seen in the assignments are that they both compel a slight change in emotion amongst the audience because of what it allows them to see and hear. the differences are that as stated before, assignment 2 had an actual storyline while assignment 3 did not
I don't think subtracting elements from either of the assignments would have help the effectiveness of them however adding to them could have made them much better. with assignment 2 it would have been possible to extend the narrative infinitely which would give it more depth and assignment 3 could evolove form using not just random abstract objects but into a fully developed representation of your chosen song
assignment 2 could be approached in the same way as assignment 3 by simply taking away all the labels and detailed of all the objects seen in the narratives, books, shelves and cloests would become squares of varying sizes, a person face would become just a circle etc, by utilizing commonly recognized shapes certain things would maintain their definition. This would also allow the narratives to become small movies with movement and music in order to help convey meaning
